WINSTON-SALEM, NC, January 14, 2008 - AHDRA headquarters has announced a new location for the 2008 Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts Arizona Bike Week Nationals. Presented by Arrowhead Harley-Davidson and Chandler Harley-Davidson on March 29th and 30th, the race will now be held at Speedworld Dragstrip in Wittmann, AZ. Located approximately 20 miles from Phoenix, the facility has undergone notable improvements since AHDRA's last appearance there in the year 2000.
Butch Warner, track manager at Speedworld Dragstrip, reports that both lanes at the Dragstrip are now complete with concrete barriers, the concrete launch pad has been extended an additional 420 feet, and blacktops have been improved in both the parking area and the return road.
"We are continuing to make improvements here," Warner said, adding, "It's all about the racers and the spectators."
AHDRA President Craig Tharpe reported that the reason for the move from the previous location (Firebird International Raceway) was a result of scheduling conflicts. "Our efforts were to keep the event in the Phoenix area in conjunction with the opening weekend of Arizona Bike Week activities," he noted.
Arizona Bike Week starts March 27th and activities continue until April 6th. Tharpe says that past attendance at the Arizona race was affected by the scheduling at the tail end of Bike Week with concerts and other activities happening throughout the area. "Having the race lead off the full week of events has proved to have a better result for us in the past," he explained.
Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts returns as the title sponsor at AHDRA's first West Coast meet of the 2008 series, as do presenting sponsors Arrowhead Harley-Davidson and Chandler Harley-Davidson.
Arrowhead Harley-Davidson will host a Nitro Party on Thursday, March 27th, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the dealership. Both the Arrowhead and Chandler dealerships will offer discounted advanced tickets to the race.
The Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) will host the first official H.O.G. PitStop of the 2008 season at SpeedWorld Dragstrip on March 29th and 30th. H.O.G. members are offered a free pin and refreshments with paid admission at this AHDRA event, and others to be announced soon.
Admission to the Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts Arizona Bike Week Nationals Presented by Arrowhead Harley-Davidson and Chandler Harley-Davidson is $50 for a weekend pass or $30 for a single day. Admission prices include pit access. H.O.G. members receive a $5 discount with a valid H.O.G. card. Admission is free for children 11 and under, and AHDRA also offers free admission to active and reserve military personnel with valid identification.
Racing starts both days at 9:00 a.m.
