GRIZ ROBINSON LANDS TOP PRIZE AT THE SCREAMIN' EAGLE PERFORMANCE PARTS RACE AT THE RALLY IN STURGIS, S.D.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC, August 19, 2004 - With sunny skies and a hearty crowd on hand AHDRA returned to Sturgis Dragway on August 8th and 9th for the first time since 1998 for a non-points meet during the famed Sturgis Bike Week Rally.

Ron Hutchinson, (Vice President of Parts and Accessories) and Anne Paluso, (Racing Manager) from the Harley-Davidson Motor Company opened the show with a huge welcome to racers and fans with Bob Frye and crew from ESPN2's NHRA Today on hand.

Racers in several of the 14 classes of competition offered by AHDRA staged on the newly renovated 1/8th mile strip at Sturgis Dragway for a show that left the fans wanting more.

Griz Robinson of Pueblo, CO led the field in Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley qualifying with a 4.582 at 167.96 best after 3 rounds and made his way through eliminations to face Ken Kent of Edmonton, AB in Monday's final round.

Robinson had the early advantage with a .084 reaction to Kent's .144 and after ignition problems shut down the Canadian, Kent's ride, Robinson rode the 1/8th mile to a win with a 4.691 at 158.54 mph.

In JIMS Pro Fuel, Chicago Joe of Richmond, CA was the number one qualifyer heading into eliminations with a 4.983 at 120.06mph and Steve Ruggiero was 2nd with a 5.150 at142.99mph, but in Monday's opener a big explosion from Joe's Trust Me Racing ride sent him to the trailer with more repairs than the crew could tackle for the next round call.

Ruggiero of Fresno, CA advanced to the finals with his win over #3 qualifyer, Kristine Becker of Snohomish, WA in the semis and then received the word from Chicago Joe that he would not make the final round call.

Ruggiero successfully completed his bye run for the win with a 5.428 at 138.56mph.

Scott Truett of Wichita, KS grabbed a win in the Kresto Pro Drag category over John Breckenridge of Sultan, WA. Breckenridge, the #2 qualifier had the early advantage with a .124 reaction over Truett's .138, but #1 qualifier Truett made up the difference with a 4.828 at 143.86mph to a 5.903 at 115.60mph from Breckenridge.

In S & S Cycle Pro Gas, it was Matt Spencer of Salt Lake City, UT finishing first over Phillip Hawk of Piedmont, SD. Spencer also competed in the finals of the Performance Corner Super Eliminator class and finished 2nd to Reggie Mackay of San Diego, CA.

In Rivera-Primo Street Pro, only two competitors made up the field, and the friendly rivals decided to make the best of the slim competition. While Joe Sternotti of Blackwood, NJ was the official winner over Verl Smith of Rainer, OR, the two staged side by side several times during the meet for exhibition grudge matches and a few laughs along the way.

Tom Bradford of Eagle, WI had every reason to be confident he would win the Screamin' Eagle V-Rod competition with a 6.561 at 107.35 #1 qualifying time in the class also fielding only a pair of competitors. Josh York of Tempe, AZ was qualified 2nd with an 8.536 at 87.03mph.

In the final, Bradford gave way to the tree, drawing a red-light foul on a 6.557/108.21 lap handing the win to York with an 8.551 at 86.67mph.

Julian Seaman of Emporia, KS made laps in three finals at Sturgis Dragway. Seaman finished on top in SEP competition over Steve Rodgers of Aurora, CO and also nabbed the win in the S & S Super Sport field over Kansas City, MO's, Russ Morgan, but Morgan returned the favor in Red Line Super Gas racing, with a win over Seaman.

Jody Davis took home easy cash as the single entry in the Drag Masters Hot Street category and made a 7.794/88.75mph pass for the top prize.

Davis was back at the line for another final in the Syn3 ET category, but a red-light foul ended his chances for the double prize. Dan Brummet of Loveland, CO was the winner.

A side note to the racing excitement: AHDRA President, Craig Tharpe took advantage of a scenic South Dakota landscape and proposed to his lady (Kristie Staton) at Mt. Rushmore. We are happy to report she said, "Yes".

The Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts Race at the Rally was deemed successful and plans are already underway for a return in 2005.
