AHDRA BRINGS TWO WHEEL THUNDER TO GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY SEPTEMBER 3RD AND 4TH-(LABOR DAY WEEKEND)
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., August 31, 2005 - The All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA) is headed to Gateway International Raceway in Madison, IL loaded with plenty of high-powered Harley excitement on Labor Day weekend.
The Surdyke Midwest Nationals presented by Drag Specialties will host a large contingent of Harley drag racers with 15 classes of competition including fire-breathing machines that travel down the quarter mile at over 200 miles per hour.
AHDRA entered its 28th year in drag racing in 2005, and AHDRA president Craig Tharpe says he is thrilled to bring the AHDRA show to Gateway International Raceway for a first-time appearance for the National points series. Tharpe says they are also very excited to have the family of Surdyke Harley-Davidson dealerships on board to support this year's event along with Drag Specialties.
Fans new and old will experience the adrenaline rush when the nitro-powered monsters pull into the burnout box, filling the air with a lingering white cloud and creating an unforgettable ground-pounding roar.
For the performance-savvy, AHDRA racing includes Harley-Davidson bikes straight from the street to the strip along with plenty of modified entries as well.
Spectating at an All Harley Drag Racing event doesn't just happen in the grandstands. Tharpe says fans are welcome to browse the pits and meet the racers to get an up-close look at the hundreds of bikes participating in the action.
Fans can also visit vendor row for all their favorite biker treats along with popular manufacturers and displays from the participating Harley-Davidson dealerships.
The weekend kicks off with pre-race parties on Friday, September 2, hosted by Gateway to the West Harley-Davidson (St. Louis,MO), Dale's Harley-Davidson (Mt. Vernon, IL) and Surdyke Harley-Davidson in Festus, MO. The parties at all three dealerships get underway at 4:00pm and go until 7:30pm. Fans attending the Nitro parties at any three dealerships can sign up to win a 2006- 883 Sportster to be given away at 7:00pm.
The entrees will be combined from the three dealerships and a live broadcast will take place at 7:00pm between the dealerships on Friday as the winner is announced.
Racing at the track gets underway Saturday with qualifying at 9:00am.
On Sunday, sportsman eliminations begin at 9:00am and the Pros take the track at 12:30pm. Gates open both days at 8:00am.
Admission is $25 for a single day or $40 for 2-days. H.O.G. members receive a $5 discount and Children 11 and under are admitted free. AHDRA offers free admission for active military and reserve personnel with proper I.D.
Discount tickets and a punch card good for up to $15 off admission price are available at the three participating Harley-Davidson dealerships.
