GIGANTIC WEEKEND OF GROUND POUNDING, FUEL GUZZLING, TEETH CHATTERING NITRO ACTION HEADED TO "THE ROCK"!
AHDRA BRINGS THE SCREAMIN' EAGLE PERFORMANCE PARTS NATIONALS Presented By THE CAROLINA HARLEY-DAVIDSON DEALERS ASSOCIATION TO ROCKINGHAM DRAGWAY, OCTOBER 4TH, 5TH & 6TH
Winston-Salem, NC, September 27 2002 - With only two events left on the AHDRA National Points Series, the upcoming Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts Nationals Presented by The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association is guaranteed to bring the best competition of the year to Rockingham Dragway.
The 2002 National Championship points are up for grabs and competitors from the U.S. and Canada will compete for the top spots in the AHDRA's 14 classes of competition.
In JIMS Top Fuel, a Canadian battle for points is staged for Rockingham Dragway. Dave O'Hara and the Hell Racing Team will be fighting for the #1 spot, currently held by fellow Canadian, Ron Houniet's Fast Lane Racing team. There's a 90- point gap between the two and it's down to a round by round contest for the Championship.
Early entries indicate AHDRA will host one of the largest JIMS Top Fuel fields of the year in Rockingham. Reigning champion, Steve Moore (Team VIP), Orangeburg Cycle's, Bill Furr, Mark "The Hammer" Cox (Bojangles), and Raleigh, NC's, Ray Price are just a few of the crowd favorites expected to compete.
Mike Lehman (H-D of Palm Beach) will be out to grab points needed for the HD Afterparts.com Pro Fuel championship title. Lehman will face Tim Kerrigan's Red Line Oil Team for the top spot. Chris Streeter's FBM Racing team will add plenty of noise to the competition. Currently in the #3 spot, Streeter is still in the chase for the crown.
Eighteen points separate John Hammock (S&S/Red Line Oil) from current champion Tom Bradford (Thunder Eagle Racing/Hal's H-D) in Pro Stock action. Both are expected to compete at "The Rock".
It appears Scott Truett has the Kresto Pro Drag title wrapped, but the battle for 2nd continues. John McMillin of Portland, OR holds the 2nd position and is not expected to compete in Rockingham, but Chuck Jones of St. Pete, FL will be there attempting a move from the #3 spot.
Cliff Dwy and the Sasquatch Racing team will travel from Portland, OR to capture points in the Joker Machine Pro Modified competition. Mike Lozano's LSB Team is 151 points in front of Dwy, and Lozano will be out to seal his lead in Rockingham.
Frank Dove (H-D of Washington) has a commanding lead in the Pro Gas category and will no doubt compete in Rockingham for extra marks.
Travis Lummus has officially achieved the "Hat Trick" championship in Spyke Street Pro competition, but Lummus wants more than a 3rd Championship. The Gene Lummus H-D sponsored team will be out for records at "The Rock". Lummus has the MPH 1/8th mile record but Doug Morrow and the Carl's Speed Shop team of Daytona Beach, FL, own the 1/4-mile ET and MPH honors along with the 1/8th mile ET record. Rockingham Dragway is the place to be for record setting racing!
Tie-breaking competition is on tap in both Rivera-Primo Super Gas (9.90) and SEP (11.50) classes. H-D of Fredericks, Shawn Vantucci and Dale Miller (Sylvania H-D) are vying for the #1 spot in the 9.90 index ranks while Donnie Huffman (H-D of Lakeland) and John Henderson (H-D of Annapolis) will compete for the #1 spot in the 11.50 class.
John Burdynski of Houston, TX is headed to Rockingham with a 2nd Championship in the works in the Performance Corner Super Eliminator class and Allan Nusbaum and B.R. Nalley will face off for the Nonpareil Super Sport trophy.
Junior Pippin of Conyer's, GA leads the Andrew's ET series, but Dan Degood (Electric City H-D) and Lynchburg, VA's Craig Pollard are out to close the gap.
The Juniors will add pint-sized action when competitors in the Blackfoot Racing Junior (ages 8-10) and Hayes Jewelers Junior Seniors (ages 11-16) classes take the track on Saturday.
Special attractions include Saturday nights "King of the Rock" Gamblers Bracket Race. Street bikes meeting AHDRA requirements will compete for a $2000 winner take all purse. The campgrounds will rock into the night with live entertainment featuring, "Blue English".
Sunday, see nostalgic Harleys from 1915, with rare prototype models and competition machines from the 50's and 60's on display from the Wheels Through Time Museum.
