Tom Caldwell/Old Guys Do Rule Racing finished #2 in Pro Gas AMRA, Bowling Green National Finals
October 10, 2012
Tom Caldwell/Old Guys Do Rule Racing had an up and down weekend at the AMRA Finals at Bowling Green, KY. Caldwell says, "We qualified #1 with a 8.099 @ 160.773 after, while fighting the clutch all day Saturday. To add to the stress, I lost my O2's on the first T&T run that produced a 8.22 Saturday morning. So, I had to use the OLD GUY's 45 plus years of tuning, to save the day.
"I got the bye run 1st round and ran first out, after the NDRL (Nostalgia Drag Racing League) cars and most of us spun on the soft rubber from the cars on the track. So, we did not have any usable data to use for the second round. I still managed to run a 8.19 @ 155 mph, going from the left groove to the right and back to the left groove. Doc asked me, if I was taking the scenic route. I replied no, just trying to make it to the Corvette Museum!"
I lost second round to Bill Doherty, on Shaun Reno’s old record setting bike. Both of us were late, I was .032 latter than Bill and my bike bogged (lack of 1st round data) a tic with a slow 1.181 sixty foot time and he was out about a bike length and stayed there; running his best run of the weekend a 8.10. I rolled off the fuel at the 1000 mark and still ran 8.36, just saving the motor since, I have 2 more races to run this year. I ran a 8.27, 8.24, a 8.099 in qualifying and a 8.199 1st round of Elimination, and a chopped 8.34 in the second round."
Caldwell wants to thank Trammel Creek Cycle Works for their continuing support and they will be back in2013!!!! Thank you, Mike (Bear) and Vikki!
Now the Grandpaw part of Old Guys do Rule, "My 15 year old grandson Bryce, crewed with me at his first Harley race at Bowling Green. He was quite surprised and really enjoyed the races. He did a great job of videoing all my runs! He is a good young man and I love him very much. He said, he would be attending more races next year. I am really looking forward to our time together."
Caldwell finished 2nd in Pro Gas with theAMRA with the new 1/8 and ¼ ET records. Not to bad for only making 3 of the 5 AMRA races in his first full year back racing, since 2007.
Next, Caldwell is getting ready for the "ROCK" with the AHDRA Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts Jim McClure Nitro Nationals Presented by the Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Associations on October 13-14! One of the premier tracks and traditionally one of the most fun, "We continue to prep the bike and look forward to the cooler air and hope to improve my performance. The "ROCK" is always fast for us. I ran an 8.12 & 8.10, there in May. Heck, I ran two 8.15’s there in 2006!"
HogScrap Brands will be at the "ROCK" displaying their cutting edge wares again at my pit area. All, AMERICAN made products!
